How CreateHER Fest became Athika’s ticket to Ava Labs London Summit & Hackathon.

A scroll through Athika’s London Journey with our partner Ava Labs - from scholarship award to summit moments and blockchain baddie goals.
What started with Toronto based CreateHER Athika Fatima having to cancel her trip to one of North America’s most anticipated blockchain developer conferences due to a passport delay….shifted entirely a few weeks later when she opened up her inbox and saw the subject line:
You’ve been selected – CreateHER Fest x Avalanche Scholarship
She’d been nominated by CreateHER Fest and chosen by Ava Labs to attend the Avalanche Summit & Hackathon in London, with just over two weeks to get a visa, book a flight, and prep for her first-ever international solo trip.
“I had to fly ‘solo’ in less than 5 days. Just 3 weeks ago I cancelled ETHDenver.”
The clock was ticking, but she wasn’t alone. With support from the CreateHER Community and Ava Labs, she made it to London, and made it count!
Athika didn’t just attend; she led.
She competed in the hackathon, connected with DevRels, demoed projects, leveled up her blockchain skills, and paid for SATLY caramel ice cream in Bitcoin, all while still finding time to swing in a hammock between sessions. 💅🏼
Reflecting on what got her there, she said:
“This moment was special because of the women who surrounded me.”
Referring to Adriann Guy, CreateHER Fest Co-Founder and Doro Unger-Lee, Ava Labs Senior Dev Rel & Partnerships Lead.
THIS is what community support looks like. This is the power of networks that truly invest in women's growth in emerging tech. Or, as she put it:
“Two women decided to wake up one day and become fairy godmothers.”
That’s the power of access.
Because when systems say no, the right support can still say: go.
Whether you're curious about blockchain, AI, or how these technologies intersect, Athika's journey shows what becomes possible when preparation meets opportunity. Keeping up with the opportunity section of our newsletter is where you can start today!

From 20M to 120M Users - How One Woman CEO is Changing Crypto Forever

Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, driving blockchain innovation and championing gender equity in the tech industry.
Gracy Chen is the only woman CEO among the world’s top 10 crypto exchanges—an inspiring leader whose path to blockchain began in an unexpected place. She started her career as a TV host, pivoted into entrepreneurship, and then earned her MBA from MIT before finding her mission in Web3. Today, as CEO of Bitget, Gracy has taken the platform from 20 million to over 120 million users in just a year.
But Gracy’s impact goes far beyond the numbers. She launched the $10 million Blockchain4Her initiative to bring more women into the industry and led Bitget’s Anti-Scam Month, an interactive campaign that helped everyday users spot crypto fraud—a growing problem that cost the world $4.6 billion last year. Under her leadership, scam detection rates on Bitget jumped from only 8.6% to over 65%.
Gracy’s journey proves you don’t need a traditional tech background to lead and protect in Web3. Ready to take your own first step? Register for the World Computer Hacker League hackathon by July 25th for hands-on training, mentorship, and a chance to build your future in blockchain!
