Your Data Just Became AI Training Fodder

If you use LinkedIn to build your career, connect with peers, or showcase your work and thought leadership, you should know: on November 3, 2025, your profile, posts, and professional journey became training data for AI models (unless you opted out).
It’s not just LinkedIn! Meta has been using public Instagram and Facebook posts to train AI since May 2025. X (formerly Twitter) enabled AI training by default in 2024. Even Anthropic (Darlyze’s personal fave 😭) known for privacy protection, now asks Claude users to opt in to data sharing. The message is clear: tech platforms are betting big on AI, and our data is the currency!

Mood
Why This Matters
For women navigating tech careers, this shift carries a major weight. Your professional story is quite literally your lived experience. Your career pivots, skills hard-won through barriers others didn’t face, thought leadership acquired by trial and error and personal experience. When AI trains on this data without context, it risks flattening your narrative or, worse, perpetuating the biases already baked into the tech industry.
You weren’t asked, you were enrolled. Instead of asking for permission, it’s as if they made AI training the default and thus buried the opt-out deep in the settings.
The good news, CreateHER Fest knows ball and we’re telling you how to opt out right now.
How to Opt Out
For LinkedIn:
Log in and click your profile photo in the top right
Go to Settings & Privacy > Data Privacy
Select Data for Generative AI Improvement
Toggle off "Use my data for training content creation AI models"
(Optional but recommended) File a Data Processing Objection through LinkedIn's form under "Object to processing for training content-generating AI models"
Direct Link to the setting (works if you’re logged in) → linkedin.com/mypreferences/d/settings/data-for-ai-improvement
For Meta (Facebook/Instagram):
Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings
Navigate to About > Privacy Center
Search for “AI Training” or “How Meta uses information for generative AI”
Submit an objection request through the form provided
The Bigger Picture
This isn’t really about one platform or one policy change. It’s about who gets to decide how our digital identities are used, and whether consent still matters in the age of AI.
A major reason CreateHER Fest exists is exactly this: not just to educate for education’s sake, but to equip you with skills to protect yourself and your community—and to ensure you’re in the rooms where decisions about our data and our future are being made. Whether you're setting stronger privacy controls, building tech that centers community values, or advocating for equity in AI, we’re creating programming to ensure you’re prepared to lead and help build a safer, more inclusive digital world for all.
Join our CreateHER Fest Discord and let us know your thoughts about AI, privacy, and how platforms use our data.
